Mount Bleak

Mt. BleakBuilt in 1857 and sited on the crest of a ridge at the far northeastern corner of the Town of Port Tobacco, Mt. Bleak was built by Dr. Oscar Fergusson, a prominent local physician. Mt. Bleak is one of only a few surviving examples of Italianate-inspired architecture in Charles County. Some of the most common characteristics of local Italianate style include wide overhanging eaves and exposed rafters. The Ferguson family cemetery is on the steep slope immediately above the house.
